"Spirit of DC" on Carolina "Home Power Hour" LP Radio Show, Today, 30 April 08

Cheers PHEV All Around America Enthusiasts,

The "Home Power Hour" Radio Show with Hosts: Solar Jim & Sustainable Jack, interviewed the "Spirit of DC" along with EVJerry. It's all part of the PHEV All Around America adventure. This radio show comes on each Wednesday at 10:00AM; it's a low power out of Carborro, North Carolina -- right next to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. An email was sent to Sustainable Jack and Solar Jim, who will be following up with a blog of their own for the pertinent information to listen to the broadcast on your computer ... and maybe more! It reads as follows:

"Cheers Sustainable Jack and Solar Jim, "Home Power Hour" Radio Show -
Do blog into www.SpiritofDC.com with the "Home Power Hour" pertinent data for listening in and/or checking out the broadcast by computer, as well as with a Cc to both: Joe Lado, Plug-in Hybrid EV All Around America Co-Chair and his fellow co-chair.
T'was neat! "Spirit of DC" certainly appreciates the attention in bringing the grassroots message out to the folks of North Carolina and beyond. Lots of good "ReNow" ground was covered for PHEV/EVs, ... the EAA, EVADC, the five Carolina EAA Chapters (Electric Cars of Roanoke Valley, Triad EVA, Triangle EAA, Piedmont Carolina EVA, Coastal Carolina/Wilminton EVA), prospective chapters in SC, the Triangle EAA EVent for "Who Killed the Electric Car?" coordinated by TEAA VP Don "DC" Crohan, Carolina chapters, the "Power of DC," the BugE, and ... a "ReNow" call to action -- that is a return now to a proven technology - PHEV and EV.
EVer,
EVJerry Asher, PHEV3A Co-Chair (202) 486-5450
PS "Spirit of DC" wants to know if on her travels thru the hi-ways & by-ways of North America, ...she should be on the look-out for a conference call-in system for you two radio 'renow'ns' ?"

That's it for the moment, now back to work at PHEV3A reverse routing for the "Spirit of DC" when she comes thru Florida,

EVJerry

PHEV3A Planning Session "Spirit of DC" - Coming Up for Tuesday, 13 May 2008

As evident by now, only the symbolic 'christening' of the "Spirit of DC" took place for the Plug-in Hybrid EV All Around America! Under the skill hands of Graphic Artist, Chip Gribben, and Triad EVA Prez, Jack Martin, the signage was applied. It was, as Joe Lado, PHEV3A Co-Chair so aptly pointed out, the virtual launching of the "Spirit of DC" and from almost on the very steps of the Nation's Capitol during the last day, Tuesday, 22 April 2008, of the EPA 4th National Sustainable Design Expo. So take time to review pixs on this website.

Now as part of the PHEV3A adventure -- awaiting the PHEV System from PluginSupply and further coordinating/scheduling directions from Mike Harvey and the like, things have been moving, nevertheless, forward! We are progressing. EAA Chapter contacts are being notified, especially to check for PHEV3A updates on the www.SpiritofDC.com website, so ably set up and being managed by Eric Lamison-White. Routing is being re-worked as well as scheduling, which looks promising to be done in conjunction with the 7th EVADC-sponsored "Power of DC" EVent, (see www.PowerofDC.com> being coordinated by Chip Gribben. Also, Amtrak has expressed a desire to bets "in" as a sponsor.

So, on Tuesday, 13 May at Baja Fresh in Silver Spring, MD, a PHEV3A planning session is scheduled to review the general status quo of the "Spirit of DC," to report out on on routes per adjusted scheduling, to establish "Ride Alongs" process, address issues from within and outside of the PHEV3A Committee.

Wrap Notes: EVJerry here has been taking in the therapeutic Gulf sea breezes at Clearwater, FL, on the West Coast of Florida. His drippy, reddened Nose is no longer, ... but rather it's now happy, happy, happy along with lungs cleared up and no longer hacking and eyes no longer scratchy! Such was due to the pollen maelstrom in the DC environs ... after the EVADC Exhibit of EVs/PHEV and 'christening' of the "Spirit of DC" on 22 April. At this time, I'm focusing actually on the ground in Florida for the routing for the "Spirit of DC." So far, the preliminary assessment appears that coming down the East Coast of Florida that Hwy 1 will do ever so nice for low speeds and adequacy of recharging in the various cities. Coming up the West Coast of Florida from the Miami Area, it appears that Hwy 41 along with certain coastal variations will do on into the Florida Panhandle. "Spirit of DC" e-Announcement & Positive Feedback!

Cheers PHEV All Around America Committee Guys & Gals in particular and EVADC'rs at large ... plus EAA Members from Chapters or otherwise -

The "Spirit of DC" Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle All Around America (PHEV3A) e-Announcement has been emailed out to the all the EAA Chapters. See posted e-Announcement for review.

And lots of positive feedback and acknowledgments are flooding back in -- such as from Konocti EAA in California, Michigan EAA, Triangle EAA from NC, Pioneer Valley EAA in Massachusetts ... for starters! Hopefully, I can compile these inputs and make another PHEV3A posting by tomorrow.

Big ticket item is the "When" -- When will the "Spirit of DC" in my town, my locale, for the PHEV All Around America? Note that what's being directly worked upon presently is developing both a "Mapping" Team and a "Ride Along" Team in order to coordinate where the "Spirit of DC" is taking EVJerry and a "Ride Along" next.

In wrapping up, Chip Gribben, PHEV3A Graphic Artist par excellence, reported that the initial signage is developed and being e-forwarded to the printer. Anticipate that the Signage EVent to "christen" the "Spirit of DC" to be Earth Day on the Capitol Mall -- that's Tuesday afternoon, 22 April 2008. It's in conjunction with the EVADC Exhibit of EVs & PHEVs with the EPA 4th National Sustainable Design Expo (see also www.EPA.gov/P3) - that's Tuesday, 22 April 2008.

Thanks EVer, one & all,

EVJerry Asher, EVADC PHEV3A Co-Chair

This is a Shout Out to All Our Peeps at EAA.

Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, DC
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle All Around America (PHEV3A) Program

Dear Plug-In Vehicle Enthusiast,

The Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, DC (EVA/DC) proudly announces that it is a sponsor of a Spirit of DC, a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle that will travel All Around America (PHEV3A). We invite all the Chapters of the Electric Auto Association (EAA) to join us in this endeavor to let the public know about plug-in vehicles and the power of electricity in automobile transportation. Our first objective is to visit some 50 EAA Chapters and demonstrate in a "show & tell" fashion the practicality of PHEVs.

Not only is EVA/DC taking the lead by sponsoring of PHEV3A financially, but more importantly, EVA/DC is coordinating the program with skill and talent coming from all around America . For example, "The Spirit of DC" is being converted by Mike Harvey of Harvey Coachworks ( http://www.harveyev.com/) out of Knoxville, Maryland, out of Petaluma, California, Robb Protheroe of Plug in Supply (http://www.pluginsupply.com/) is providing the PHEV system components, Caroline Coquilletten of Luscious Garage (http://www.lusciousgarage.com/) in San Francisco donated special rear springs so that the Spirit of DC can ride steady, and Dr Jack Martin, the President of the Triad EVA in North Carolina, is coming up to volunteer for the launch. There are more examples of others standing up and offering to help and there is plenty of need for help to. If you or members of your chapter want to help, feel free to offer donations of money, batteries, low resistant tires, a place to stay for the driver, food, media attention, electricity or what ever you think will help.

We want "The Spirit of DC" to take EVADC member, Jerry Asher, and other EAA’rs, who'd like to do "Ride Alongs," from the steps of the US Capitol to all 50 State Capitals (even possibly getting water transport to Hawaii), as well as reaching some Provinces of Canada. The intention is to demonstrate the practicality of the PHEV to the general public. "The Spirit of DC" expects to tally over 10,201 miles in its first 101 days while attempting to get 101 miles per gallon by using plug-in electricity each day as much as possible. We believe that with the assistance of the EAA chapters that “The Spirit of DC” can achieve this EV challenge.

The Father of the Modern Plug-In Hybrid, University of California at Davis Professor Andy Frank, said, "A long electric range PHEV is first an EV," and we consider our PHEV "The Spirit of DC" in the same way. We believe PHEVs provide an alternative to using gasoline at $4, $5, $6 ... a gallon, by providing the choice of plugging-in at 60, 70, 80 cents worth of electricity for gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE). In brief, it's about our freedom of choice.

The estimated PHEV3A launch is currently set for Tuesday afternoon on the 22nd of April 2008, in commemoration of Earth Day. The launch site will be from the Capitol Mall after EVADC's participation as an exhibitor in the Environmental Protection Agency's 4th National Sustainable Design Expo and People, Prosperity and Planet (P3) Award Competitions. At that time, "The Spirit of DC" will be heading South through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, then East to Richmond, then straight towards the Capital of North Carolina visiting five EAA Chapters in and between Raleigh.

Potential sponsors, whether EAA Chapters or individual EAA Members, can contact PHEV3A Co-Chairs -- JoEV Lado, the virtual PHEV3A Operations Center (POC) commander and “On the Road” PHEV3A contact, J. "EVJerry" Asher as follows:

EVJerry: EVisionA2Z@usa.net (202) 486-5450 - Cell

EVADC expects that 100's of 1,000's of people in North America as well as foreign visitors will see "The Spirit of DC," while on its travels All Around America. We sincerely hope that this venture will be seen as the "pivotal point" when the nation finally realizes on a grass roots level that plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles are truly a practical possibility.

EVer Yours for the PHEV3A Committee of EVADC,
Joe Lado and J. "EVJerry" Asher, Co-Chairs
