PHEV DAY 21 - Saturday, 28 June 2008. The Triangle Electric Auto Association Meeting Day at P & A Smith Volvo/Lexus Garage in Cary, NC
On Saturday, 28 June 2008, the merry duo, one charged up PHEV and a rested up EVJerry were set to take in the Triangle Electric Auto Association meeting at 10:00 at P & A Smith Volvo/Lexus Garage in Cary, NC.
Miss “Spirit of DC” also filled up at a BP Station in Durham on NC Hwy 55; it was close to NC Hwy 54 - the primary route chosen to get to Cary for the Triangle EAA meeting. She registered 71,910 miles and took 5.436 gallons at $3.96/gallon for a grand total of $21.58. The computer reading on the screen was 56.3 MPG for an overall tally from WDC to Durham, NC of 291.8 miles. MileTallyMeister Bob Winfield took the information down for computation and a report out to be posted on the PHEV3A website -- the www.SpiritofDC.com. Voltage read 241.
In hypermiling over to the TEAA Meeting, the “Spirit” max’ed out the blue screen; with electricity assistance from the lead acid battery pack, she had 101MPG for six blue bars in 5 minutes increments of 99.9 MPG -- that is also considered a leap-of-faith flr 101MPG for 30 minutes! Her running tally showed: 99.9MPG for 5 miles; 99.9 for 10; 99.9 for 15, 99.9MPG for 17 miles.
Triangle EAA Meeting had some 33 folks in attendance and four learning sessions -- Electric Bike; Electric Lawn Mower; Controller; and the “Spirit of DC” - set to surprise the TEAA'rs by flashinf her signage and showing off her stuff at the last minute.
After arriving a bit late at 10:25AM, EVJerry joined the social circle and listened to introductions going around with TEAA VP, Don “DC” Crohan presiding, as TEAA Prez, Pete Eckhoff was off at an EV Workshop with the Piedmont Carolina EVA folks -- Mike and Paula Moore at Lake Wylie, SC. (See www.Ampmobiles.com).
EVJerry introduced himself, but kept the “Spirit” on the QT again as a surprise for the very end of the meeting. EVJerr did wear his “EV Expo” blue T-shirt in honor of DC, who gifted it to him out-of-state assistance in making the EV Expo probably the grandest success in all the EAA Chapters, which organized and showed the film "Who Killed the Electric Car? Note: reportedly an an estimated 1300 - 1500 people took in the finale -- especially the film and the WKtEC? Director, Chris Paine.
EVJerry further joked and made the occasion out to be “Founders Day” … but 'wondered' where was his fellow co-founder, Bob “BZ” Zickefoose was? After discussing his being on the EAA Board of Directors, his Chapters Relations role, and being instrumental in setting up four EAA Chapters in NC within the last year or so, EVJerr underscored the EVision that the FuturEV is green & clean, electric and sustainable.
When it came time for Miss “Spirit of DC” to be the focal point for the PHEV All Around America, it was a magnetic! TEAA'rs like other green grassroots people were just simply drawn to the "Spirit." They enjoyed viewing her back to front! They noticed her superb graphics, the encased 20-battery pack with hydraulic lifts, the charger unit, the layout, and spacing, and ultimately, the PHEV's mind circuit -- the CANView/CANbus system. They definitely asked questions. TEAA’rs even picked up PluginAmerica.com tri-folds, PluginSupply.com flyers, and even some EVADC tri-folds.
Around 1:45PM, with DC declaring that “Something gets fixed at every meeting!” and that“EVerybody leaves learning something new,” the meeting adjourned. Yet, there was a “call for the breaking tortilla chips" elsewhere.” Five of us showed up at “Max’s”-- DC's favorite pub in Cary, I believe: Triangle EAA'r Michael North (who seemingly is quite knowledgeable about PluginAmerica.com as well as CALCars.org), a brand new TEAA'r Carolyn Penny (she gave the electric bike talk and demo) and TEAA mainstay, Mack Toler, TEAA'r DC and TEAA Co-Founder, EVJerry.
After another couple hours at Max's, the “Spirit of DC” took EVJerry to Downtown Raleigh for a photo session at the State Capital. This came off nicely late in the afternoon with 97-degree and the sun setting. Also, Josh & Amber from Greensville, NC came along and served as the digital phototogs, thereby documenting the fifth state capital that Miss “Spirit” has now visited. She and EVJerry were right there at the original State Capital square. See Photos to be posted.
From the Raleigh, it was on to US 401, then onto NC Hwy 210 and into Fayetteville, NC, for a stayover at Pope AFB. But Alas! without benefit of an electric hookup for the "Spirit." The day’s final reading showed 57.8MPG for 88 miles.
For Sunday, the "Spirit of DC" had a certain a quest in mind -- an EV Store in Fayetteville reportedly with the Bleeker Car Dealership. If so, this would be probably be the first EVer EV Store in Fayetteville, but perhaps the first Ever in Carolinah -- the first EVer honor for an EV Store actually goes to ANT Jayne and Rick Howard of Southport, NC. Jayne's ANT suffix stood for Alternative Neighborhood Transportation.
EVer,
Miss "Spirit of DC" and EVJerry
