Spirit of DC Visits Citicar Gathering!

May 15th to 17th, 2009 was a unique experience in Columbia, Maryland.
Gathered there were Citicars, the most-produced electric car in American history.
Citicar owners from all over the country got together to celebrate these cute little electric vehicles, and meet with the man behind the car, Bob Beaumont.
Other electric vehicles were invited to the EVent as well. We had a Kewet, electric scooter, electric motorcycle, EV Jetta, and of course, the Spirit of DC.
I met Jerry Asher last summer on his trip across America in Madison, Wisconsin.
It was great to see the car again, this time driven by Dave Goldstein. The solar panels were new since I last saw the car, so I made sure to take lots of photos.
The Citicars are so small, you can actually park three of them in one parking space! Any of the full-size EVs felt like the "mothership"!
Besides presentations by the original folks involved with the Citicars, there was also a plastics repair demonstration (Citicars have Plastic bodies, like a Saturn) and "unofficial" events of driving laps and drag-racing.
You know it's a successful event when people start talking about what we're doing next year!
In that case, we'll see you next year, but for now, see more pictures of the Spirit at:

The Spirit was on display at the Headquarters of the US EPA, right outside the window of the new Administrator, Lisa Jackson, yesterday. Charlie Garlow gave a lecture to the summer law clerks and then took them to the curb to see the Spirit with its fancy solar panels, power output inverter and other fine features. Plenty of questions from them and other passers-by coming from the Smithsonian museums on the Capitol Mall.
Then the Spirit loaded up 5 people to go to the annual picnic of the Air Enforcement Division. We sue air polluters. What fun. They also got a tour of the Spirit and then the rain/deluge got us. Off to the bar to wet our whistles and who did we run into there but a guy from Chile, Gustavo, who was designing his electric three wheeled vehicle. Very nice picture. So, we invited him out to see the Spirit. Very impressed was he. More showing off to come.
Charlie Garlow, custodian until Jerry gets back to the East.
